Cooling all of this insanity are nine copper heat pipes and five fans that sound like a plane taking off in your backyard when spinning at full throttle. For its CPU it packs an i7-7820HK quad-core processor that runs at 2.90 Ghz and can be overclocked. Front and center is its two Nvidia GTX 1080s in SLI, adding this laptop to the very short list of laptops that run any two dual graphics cards, much less dual 1080s. It also has a microphone, webcam, four speakers that get quite loud, two charging ports for the two power bricks required to charge the “portable” device.įinally, the Acer Predator 21x comes with a stunning set of internal hardware. The sides and back contain five USB ports (four are USB 3.0 and one is USB type-C), an HDMI port, a DisplayPort connection, and a RJ-45 network port. The rest of the externals of the computer are also impressive. The small rectangular part can be flipped over to function as a trackpad when the user needs it, or can be switched to the other side to operate as a number pad, a feature many gamers would enjoy since many are used to bringing wireless or corded mice with them. At first glance, it may appear that the laptop has no trackpad, but Acer simply integrated it with the number pad. While not the first laptop to have a mechanical keyboard (that award goes to the MSI GT Titan), the backlit keyboard is still impressive, and comes with another interesting innovation. The display also comes with Tobii Eye Tracking technology, a still kind of gimmicky but never the less interesting add on.īelow the huge screen is the Predator 21x’s second most prominent feature: a full-sized, Cherry MX Brown switch equipped mechanical keyboard. This display checks all of the boxes along with being 21 inches, curved, and having a resolution of 2560 by 1080, the panel is also IPS with incredible color accuracy, 120hz for insane framerates, and G-sync for buttery-smooth and tearless gameplay. Let’s start with the most obvious feature of this behemoth: the first ever curved ultra-wide display on a laptop. Acer is clearly going for publicity with this computer, as its specifications list is the definition of top-tier. So, what makes this laptop so special (and expensive)? Well, pretty much everything. Update: Acer told Ars that the Predator 21X will weigh 8kg (17.6lbs)-just under half the weight of Elvis, the world's heaviest domestic cat. After many months of showcases at electronics expos and conferences, Acer has finally released its unnecessarily equipped and powerful gaming “laptop”, the Acer Predator 21x. Really, the whole thing is a bit of a beast. The numpad (which isn't mechanical) can apparently be flipped over to become a touchpad. The Predator 21X also has Tobii eye-tracking hardware, 4.2 audio (what's the only thing better than one subwoofer?), and a full-size illuminated Cherry MX mechanical keyboard. Intel isn't planning to release its quad-core Kaby Lake parts until the first quarter of 2017-which incidentally is when the Acer Predator 21X is meant to go on sale. Given the laptop's desktop-replacement aspirations we are probably looking at some kind of quad-core 45W TDP chip, rather than one of the dual-core low-power parts unveiled by Intel this week. The screen is G-Sync enabled, too.ĬPU-wise, the laptop has a new 7th-gen Kaby Lake Intel Core processor, but we don't know exactly which model. The curved screen, which has a resolution of 2560×1080, is powered by two of Nvidia's latest mobile GTX 1080 graphics cards. The new Predator 21X laptop sits at the very top of Acer's gaming laptop range. Acer says it's the world's first laptop with a curved screen. Acer has unveiled some new laptops at IFA in Germany, including the utterly monstrous curved-display 21-inch Predator 21X.
